Nightlase Q&A

What is NightLase®?

NightLase is a painless and noninvasive laser treatment that improves your breathing at night. If you have sleep apnea, breathing becomes difficult while you sleep.

Sleep apnea can also cause your spouse or partner to lose sleep because of your snoring or because of your continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, which can be noisy.

During a NightLase treatment at Finesse Dental, Dr. Moqattash uses a Fotona laser to heat the soft tissues in the back of your mouth and throat.

The heat from the laser causes the collagen within your tissues to contract, making them tighter and less likely to collapse. In turn, this causes your airway to stay open without obstruction as you sleep.

What does NightLase treat?

NightLase is a sleep apnea treatment that addresses the underlying cause of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA happens when the soft tissues in the back of your mouth and throat collapse when you relax or sleep.

The symptoms of OSA are extensive and don’t just affect your sleep. If you have OSA, you might experience:

  • Morning dry mouth
  • Daytime tiredness or fatigue
  • Forgetfulness
  • Moodiness
  • Frequent headaches
  • Snoring

With OSA, your body struggles to get the oxygen it needs for optimal functioning. Because of this, the condition can cause long-term negative health effects like high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke.

How long do the results of NightLase treatment last?

If you and Dr. Moqattash decide to proceed with NightLase for your OSA, you’ll schedule a series of three sessions over the course of six weeks.

After three comfortable sessions, you’ll notice a difference in the quality of your sleep and a reduction in other symptoms like moodiness and fatigue.

These results can last for up to a year. If you’re satisfied with your results, you can talk to Dr. Moqattash about repeating the treatment with another three NightLase sessions at Finesse Dental.

What are the benefits of NightLase?

NightLase is a treatment unlike any other available for sleep apnea. Its advantages over other solutions include:

  • No need for anesthesia
  • Quick treatment times
  • No downtime
  • No loud machines
  • No medications or chemicals
  • Long-lasting results

If you’re not a candidate for NightLase, Dr. Moqattash can offer other possible solutions for your sleep apnea.
